A Common Thread

Sometimes I wonder if I’m the only person who thinks of certain things or behaves in peculiar ways. I know I can’t be, I mean, CERTAINLY someone else…

1. Has fantasies of having all personal zits and blemishes combined into one giant Blit, probably located on the ass or back of one knee
2. Thinks that home air conditioning units should have an option of nitrous oxide. And that this should be government subsidized.
3. Believes that figs are greatly under rated
4. Knows that a cigarette COULD be made that has health benefits
5. Spends, and for years has spent, countless hours designing their dream home- with absolutely zero chance of this home ever being built or owned
6. Sometimes answers questions out loud.... when no one else is in the room. Sometimes it’s even worse. It’s like a grunt or an ‘Hummmmm’ instead of a real word
7. Pretends to have her own cooking show where profanity is the spice of choice
8. Thinks regularly of MacGyver and Magnum
9. Is actually proud of how many hours they can sleep
10. Is terrified of ostriches

Anything listed sound like you? Or am I truly alone with this one?

  • I’ve got:

    3
    4
    5
    6
    10

If I had 2, I’d really worried about me.  But the rest of them I’m okay with for the most part.

#5 ... not only do I dream about it, I have scrap books of which items I want included in my design.  They change often because, well technology changes functionality and design.

  • liz, you are so not alone!!

    personally, i agree with:

    2. Thinks that home air conditioning units should have an option of nitrous oxide. And that this should be government subsidized.  (amen!  start a petition!)
    3. Believes that figs are greatly under rated (I had fig newtons for lunch two days this week)
    5. Spends, and for years has spent, countless hours designing their dream home- with absolutely zero chance of this home ever being built or owned (although I guess I should say I have only spent a “few” hours on this one)
    6. Sometimes answers questions out loud.... when no one else is in the room. Sometimes it’s even worse. It’s like a grunt or an ‘Hummmmm’ instead of a real word (all the fucking time)
    7. Pretends to have her own cooking show where profanity is the spice of choice (especially interesting seeing as how I don’t cook.)
    8. Thinks regularly of MacGyver (not Magnum, though...he is all yours even though I would so do him if given the opportunity)
    9. Is actually proud of how many hours they can sleep (especially when I return from a trade show...insane how long I can sleep for!)

  • I was going to agree with the nitrous oxide in the AC, but I am a Libertarian and believe nothing should be government subsidized.

I did not realize people ate figs outside of fig newtons.

  • 1.  Not sure.  When this one giant one dies, am I exempt from any future blemishes?  If yes, I’m in.
    2.  Never considered it, but ... YES, PLEASE!
    3.  Ewww.  Figs are gross.
    4.  Agreed.
    5.  Hmmmm . . . I do spend an inordinate amount of time dreaming about design and decor solutions for my current home.  I guess I don’t dream big enough.
    6.  OMG.  All.the.time.  I talk to my TV, the cats, the computer, the walls, myself.  You name it, I talk to it.  I even answer for the inanimate objects.  And then respond.
    7.  Again, never considered it but it’s pure genius.
    8.  I bet Magnum gives a top-notch mustache ride.  Swoon.
    9.  I could sleep for days if not for bed sores and peeing.
    10. Those bastards are huge and agressive.

  • I knew I would have something in common with some of you, but the NUMBER of things I have in common with you all, including the nun, is shocking! So we ALL talk to ourselves? For some reason, I think this is a more serious problem for me that you might realize. I mean, sometimes it catches ME off guard. The hazard of living alone, maybe?

I’m most surprised that ostriches scare others. And that they don’t scare Hello.

  • 1. yep, not the back of the knee though. that would just be too tender and every step would hurt. a few inches above the knee would be better.you could still wear shorts and it would be easier to take care of.

    2. never thought of that before. how cool would that be? is nitrous oxide flamable?

    3. love figs

    4. someday soon i hope! i miss smoking sooo much.

    5. oh yeah, all the time. i browse floor plans like some people browse porn.

    6. are you implying that not everyone does this?

    7. nope, but if you start one i’ll watch. grin

    8. macgyver yes, magnum no

    9. more like frightened really.

    10. and chickens.

    By heather on 2008 06 06

  • liz, i grew up with sesame street.  big birds don’t scare me.

By hello haha narf on 2008 06 06

  • Amen to bragging about how much you are able to sleep.  I get so disgusted when people are so proud of how little they sleep and how many hours they work.  They sometimes craft it to sound like a complaint, but I know they really want me to be impressed with how busy and important they are.  It’s just douchey - relax and get some rest douchebags.

I am also afraid of live chickens, however I find them the captivating when they are broiled, roasted, fried or grilled.

    By abroad on 2008 06 08

  • oh thank god! i thought i was the only one who was afraid of chickens! lol

    By heather on 2008 06 08

  • 5, 7 and 8 for sure.

  • 3.  Figs have been around a long time and must have been really popular.  I think that figs are even mentioned in the Bible.  Maybe people got tired of them.  Figs are still available outside Fig Newtons, but it seems like you either have to have your own tree or you have to go to Whole Foods or Central Market or one of those places to get them.

    8.  MacGyver grew up to be Jack O’Neil of Stargate.

    9.  Enjoy this one as long as you can.  Unpleasant things are down the road--night sweats, restless leg syndrome, etc....

    10.  Like the hyena, the ostrich is known for being one of those animals that will try anything once, even if it is something that seems really stupid, like trying to eat a tire while it is still on a car.  But I think maybe the ostrich has such a small brain that he forgets that he’s already tried something and has another go at it.  In the poor guy’s defense, let me also mention that it is the male ostrich who builds the nest, hatches the eggs, and raises all the baby ostriches by himself.  Maybe that makes him a bit stressed out.

  • Yup, I can certainly admit to # 5, 6, 8, 9, and maybe 10

Two years of drafting classes and 7 years of construction only make me more detail oriented in my dream home dreams.

The scariest answers are to questions you didn’t hear…

I have a feeling that we have differing thoughts on MacGyver, though. I tend to imagine how I could escape from wherever I am with duct tape, a paperclip, and a bottle of liquid nitrogen.

My wife gets angry when I oversleep, I consider it an art. I can easily sleep for 10 hours if I want to, in any position - comfortable or not.
